 Also known as the Baroda Museum, Maharaja Sayajirao Museum
is an important tourist attraction of Gujarat. Set up in 1894
AD by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, the museum exhibits fine
collections of artifacts including sculptures, ancient manuscripts,
industrial arts and royal family memorabilia. It also has
a good collection of Egyptian antiquities and the famous Akota
Bronzes, dating from the 5th century A.D. The adjoining art
gallery has a great collection of Mughal miniatures, paintings
from the European masters and valuable palm-leaf manuscripts
of Buddhist and Jain origin. Other remarkable collections
at the Museum include a full-fledged gallery of Tibetan Art.
